New Leaf

New Leaf is an animation that aims to educate about the signs of suicide, from a perspective we all know—nature. Weights of mental health struggles may feel like leaves piling up, frustration due to depression may feel like vines with thorns, and not being able to see the brightness of your future may be like being blinded by tall weeds. Even though all these feelings are overwhelming on your own, a little help from friends makes all the difference. Piles of leaves can blow away, vines can be cut, and weeds parted—just like a friend can be there for you to emotionally vent, verbally support, and physically hug. This displays both the themes of being the one to reach out and being the one to know the signs, as elaborated by the criteria. The vital hashtag is included at the end, as all the characters come together, and the end screen displays necessary resources. The symbolism used to elaborate the signs of suicide are essential to the core of this project, as it elucidates such a difficult topic to navigate in a sensitive and relatable way. Together, we can love, learn, and grow. We can turn over a new leaf.

Stay on the Line

My animated short film focuses on what a friend can do as a youth to help their friend considering suicide. This includes asking the friend directly if they are considering suicide, using the resources available to them at their school like the Wellness Center to get an adult involved and also providing their friend resources like the crisis number 988. As the creator of the film, I wanted the art style and music to really convey emotion and leave the viewers educated on what they can do to help prevent the suicide of someone they care about.

A Home Found In Art

This painting shows a small corner of my bedroom which houses my makeshift art studio. Art is my anchor. It is something I enjoy, and it feeds my soul.

My perspective

My art piece is full of secret details that explain my view on my own anchors. Art has always been a hobby that I feel like I can turn into something great and powerful with meaning and has always been something I use to calm myself down or keep me motivated.

Melodic

“Melodic” is a 60-second film that captures the power of music as an anchor during tough times. It uses evocative visuals and sound to show how music can ground us amid adversity.

At The End of the Day

A consistent nightly routine grounds me after a tiring day at school. I find that the simple things like eating a snack, reading a book, and getting to bed at a reasonable time allow my body and mind to recharge.

Find your Anchor

My art shows two people facing opposite directions; one side is blue while the other is red. The blue represents calm, and the red represents anger. On the blue side there are things that help people stay positive and keep going in life.

Baking Bliss

Along with painting, baking is one of my favorite hobbies. Baking has taught me how to appreciate things, to have patience, and also to recognize all the ingredients of my life that have made me the person I am today.

My Little Blue Box

Life is never easy, but it’s harder on some people than others. Sometimes as friends or family members, we can’t tell when a person needs our help or support. I’d like to think that our anchors do see our struggles, and that they lend themselves to us so we can see past our anxiety.

Take a Breath

It is about how if you ever felt down or feel like you life is hopelessly spiraling out of your hands, it’s play to take a breath and do the things that you like to make yourself feel better.
