Directing Change PSA

Our submission relates to this category because it shows how a girl is afraid to reach out, so she only gives signs of taking her life. Ex: giving away valuable things. She then texts her friend, about to ask for help but she ends up saying never mind. Her friend finds this strange and reaches out to a Suicide Prevention Helpline. Although she couldn’t reach out herself, her friend did for her.

Before its too late

shows examples of suicidal warning signs and how they will look when represented through a friend or peer. In the PSA, we encourage anyone who sees someone representing these signs to immediately reach out and be direct

A helping hand

Our film is about a friend helping a friend, who she sees struggling, while noticing others don’t care and are not there for her.

Light at the End of the Tunnel

“Light at the End of the Tunnel” is a 30 second animated film about suicide prevention. Its message is to encourage those who see a loved one struggling to reach out. The tone of this piece is empowering and hopeful, using monochromatic colors and the imagery of reflected light bringing someone out of the darkness.

Obsession

We aim to highlight the widespread difficulties of body dysmorphia. Many get stuck in a constant cycle around a self inflicted problem. Our character portrays a teen whose life revolves around his image. How he can be more satisfied with his appearance, is what he constantly asks himself. This problem has shown an unfortunate amount of growth due to the use of social media, comparison leading to the idea that striving for a “better” appearance, will lead to satisfaction. It needs to be addressed, and we need to remind ourselves of long lasting healthy dopamine. A healthy life is a balanced life. Don’t obsess.

Dissonance

A boy struggles with the many struggles and dissonances in life. When he reaches out, he is finally able to find his harmony.

It Doesn’t Stay Night

It’s about a teenage girl who fears that life is always a step ahead, she thinks her life is meaningless, then eventually believes that the world will be better off without her. Until someone gave her the helping hand she needed all along.

Returning Spark

The film follows a teenage girl named Trisha who was once an outgoing and happy girl, until she returns from a school break. Over the break, she faced hardships at home regarding her parents, and they took her to her breaking point. She became unrecognizable, to herself and eventually her friends, who were her biggest support group. Right as she was about to lose complete sight of her purpose, her friends took the initiative to ask what was going on, and if she was considering suicide. This acknowledgement from her friends reminded her that there is support from her small circle and professional help as well. She was able to find the light in the darkness of her traumas, finding herself once again.

Into The Light

A short PSA depicting a boy who lays, glued to his phone, in an endless cycle of never ending sadness, and feeling stuck. With this PSA, we are highlighting those who struggle with every day things, but if it goes unnoticed and continues to be unchecked, it can turn into something deeper and harder to get out of. Sometimes all you need is a new perspective on life, and if that means putting down the one thing controlling you on a daily basis, then maybe that is all you need to in order to feel ok, to get out of the spiral of darkness, and into the light.

The weight of silence

Our film relates to how teens of any age can struggle with mental health and how one person reaching out can change their life around.
