During a school counselor presentation about suicide prevention a student hears the warning signs and realizes their friend needs help. After trying to break through many times they finally get through and their friend finds hope and asks for help.

Finding the Light

Our submission is to spread awareness of mental health illnesses and how to help others struggling with it.

Anxiety Within

We noticed as a group that many people struggle with anxiety and panic attacks because they have a feared outlook of what others think.

You Are Not The Only One

The purpose of this video is to know what empathy is. Empathy, the ability to walk on somebody else’s shoes, is what connects us as human beings, which allows us to understand each other’s pain, struggles, and choices. Empathy isn’t just about understanding others. It’s about recognizing that we are all walking difficult paths even if they look different from our own.

Everyone Matters

Our entry is supposed to highlight the effects of depression in teens, as seen in our focus student Camila who has suffered from depression. Then two mental health professionals added to the conversation about how depression can affect individuals. By telling this story, the goal is to help others see that depression is much more than just being angry and sad. It involves feeling “nothingness” and getting stuck if help is not received. Mental health is an issue that should be more openly discussed. That is our goal for this film.

Perfect

This video is about reducing stereotypes on people viewed as “smart” by showing that they feel the constant need to please, and the stress they feel in this manner.

Breaking The Silence

Breaking The Silence is a film about the relationship between a mother and a daughter. The daughter does not receive support from her Hispanic mother after opening up about her mental struggles. An eye-opening news hits and the mother realizes the importance of mental health.

La Tormenta Interior

This short film is a poetic conversation of how it feels to want to speak up in a Hispanic Household. Dealing with mental issues can be difficult especially if you don’t know how, and this film shows the difficulty it can be, but also how it also takes strength and will power. My film talks about a hispanic musician who is struggling with her mental health, it shows a raw and intimate look at mental health struggles within the hispanic community, framed through artistic and poetic perspective and the quiet power of reaching out.

Umoja

Umoja highlights the power of family in overcoming sadness. It shows how speaking up and seeking support can be the first step toward healing, emphasizing the importance of unity in Kenyan culture.

Unrooted

Unrooted, a cultural short film and PSA, illustrates the “Through the Lens of Culture” category as we showcased the dynamics of mental health throughout many cultures. From Japanese, to Puerto Rican, to Albanian culture, the film portrays the struggles of diverse students and how mental health takes on several but similar forms in all cultures. The students silently struggle with mental battles while their families remain unaware. Caused by academic stress, bullying, and even just spacing out, the students’ stress causes them to undergo a rollercoaster of negative emotions. Despite cultural differences, their experiences highlight the universal nature of mental health. When their loved ones finally recognize their pain, understanding and love bridge the divide.
